SAN-EI PIONEER OF LIGHT TECHNOLOGY

The recent environmental issues have been drawing more attention over the past few years. So “solar simulators” have come into the public eye much more often. They are mainly used for the evaluation of solar cells as well as for other types of tests where sunlight needs to be recreated.

The continuous light of xenon lamp, the most faithful reproduction of sunlight, is applied in our highly accurate solar simulator, which has been widely sold across Japan and neighboring countries.

SAN-EI offer a wide range of solar-related optical technologies and can guarantee to satisfy the needs and request of customers.

Proven Reliability & Reproducibility

With over 60 years of experience in advanced optical-system development, SAN-EI has built solar simulators that are designed to be dependable day after day. Systems are engineered for:

High reproducibility between measurements and between different systems

Long-term stability for continuous operation in labs and on production lines

Robust performance under demanding R&D and industrial conditions

Spectrum

Continuous Spectrum Closest to
Real Sunlight

  • The Xenon lamp covers a wide wavelength range of 300–2500 nm, providing a continuous spectral distribution extremely close to natural solar radiation.
  • This allows you to evaluate a full portfolio of devices – from standard crystalline-silicon cells to advanced multi-junction space cells – under a single, sunlight-like source.
  • LED-based systems approximate the spectrum by combining discrete peaks. Xenon reproduces the true spectral shape of sunlight, helping you avoid spectral-mismatch doubts when presenting results to customers or auditors.

Standards

Aligned with IEC, ASTM & GB/T

Xenon-lamp solar simulators have long been recognized as reference systems in IEC / ASTM / GB/T solar-simulator standards. That means your measurement results are naturally aligned with internationally accepted evaluation criteria for:

Production inspection and quality control

Certification and qualification testing

Research-based comparative analysis across multiple sites

Our Innovations

Advantages of the SAN-EI AM Solar Simulator

Superior Performance Characteristics

  • Wide spectral range: 300–2500 nm, delivers a continuous spectrum very close to real sunlight.

  • Suitable for all solar cell types, from silicon to advanced multi-junction space cells.

  • True sunlight spectrum reproduction, unlike LED peak-mixing, Xenon provides a natural, continuous solar spectrum.

  • Higher measurement accuracy and reliability, continuous output ensures more consistent and trustworthy test results.

Large-Area Illumination with Excellent Uniformity

Through decades of optical development, SAN-EI has engineered proprietary uniform-illumination optical systems.
As a result, the system offers:

  • Large-area illumination up to 100–400 mm square and beyond
  • High irradiance above 1 SUN with excellent spatial uniformity
  • Long-term stable output for extended testing

These capabilities provide reliable and consistent evaluation standards suitable for both research laboratories and production lines.

Outstanding Advantage for AM0 (Space) Applications

  • Strong NIR optical power, essential for accurate multi-junction space cell evaluation.

  • Fully AM0 compliant, meets ASTM E490 and IEC 60904-9 requirements.

  • Trusted by leading space agencies, widely used by JAXA, NASA, and major global institutions.

  • Industry standard for AM0 simulation, delivers performance levels beyond what LED-based systems can achieve today.
